Dreamgirls won six Tony Awards when it debuted on Broadway in 1982, including a Best Actress award for Jennifer Holliday and a Best Actor award for Ben Harney.   With music by Henry Krieger and lyrics by Tom Eyen, Dreamgirls returned to Broadway in 1988 before being released as a movie in 2006.

There are 42 tracks on this album: Tracks 1-21 contain the background tracks and guide vocals; tracks 22-42 contain the accompaniment tracks alone.  This album is a re-recording in the original show key and show tempo.
